What is CNC Milling?

Is it unraveling the intricacies of CNC milling?
CNC milling is an automated method that uses a rotating spindle head uniquely designed to cut away undesired material. They come in various sizes and configurations, ensuring that there’s always an ideal fit for every project.

How CNC Milling Works?
Just like any top-notch technology, a CNC mill operates using G-Code, which is essentially the language of the machine. This G-Code is curated through specialized CAM software and dictates the machine’s actions — from the movement of the tool head to the depth of each cut.

But wait, are you considering softer materials?

You might have heard of CNC routers. Here’s a quick distinction: CNC routers focus on having the workpiece stationary, guiding the cutting head around it. In contrast, CNC mills engage both the tool head and workpiece, offering a different approach and efficiency.

So, why does CNC milling matter to you? Whether you’re an industrial manufacturer aiming for high outputs or a woodworking enthusiast, understanding CNC milling unlocks a world of possibilities. Dive in, utilize its potential, and unleash innovation like never before!

CNC Milling Tolerances & Standards

Description General Tolerance or Standard
Maximum Part Size Milled parts up to 80 in x 48 in x 24 in (2,032 x 1,219 x 610 mm).
Distance Dimensions For features of size (Length, width, height, diameter) and location (position, concentricity, symmetry) +/- 0.005 in.
Orientation and Form Dimensions 0-12 in +/- 0.005 in, Angularity 1/2 degree. For 24 in and beyond please consult Manufacturing Standards.
Precision Tolerances Shengen can manufacture and inspect to tight tolerances per your drawing specifications including GD&T callouts.
Minimum Feature Size 0.020 in (0.50 mm). This may vary depending on part geometry and chosen material.
Threads and Tapped Holes Shengen can accommodate any standard thread size. We can also machine custom threads; these will require a manual quote review.
Surface Finish The standard finish is as-machined: 125 Ra or better. Additional finishing options can be specified when getting a quote.

Types of CNC Mills

Unlock Your Potential: The 3-Axis CNC mill is your gateway to versatile machining. With the full power of the X, Y, and Z directions, imagine what you can create! It's not just a machine; it's your partner bringing ideas to life.

Evolve Your Craft: Step up with the 4-Axis router. As it rotates on a vertical axis, please think of the seamless opportunities it introduces—no more constraints, just continuous, fluid machining tailored to your needs.

Experience the Pinnacle: With the 5-Axis CNC, you're not just machining but innovating. Harness the traditional three axes and two added rotary axes, allowing you to work on five sides in one go. Imagine the time saved, the precision achieved, and the masterpieces crafted. More significant, bolder, and an investment in perfection.

The Process Flow & Duration Estimation

Please note that the final cost depends on the customized service you require, the specifications of the raw materials used, the relevant national laws, and the distance of transportation. Take the example of booking a tall container of products:

Step 1: Drawing Design (within 1 day)

Designers use CAD to quickly as well as accurately modify designs to meet the desired specifications, ensuring that the final product meets the required specifications quickly and accurately.

Step 2: Product Proofing (1-2 days)

Product proofing is an essential part of the manufacturing process that can help businesses ensure the quality and consistency of their products while minimizing risks and costs associated with defects or errors in production.

Step 3: Bulk Manufacturing (1-3 days)

Once the specifications and quality of the product are confirmed to be in order, it is ready for mass production.

Step 4: Shipping (3-5 days)

Once the products arrive at their destination, you will receive an alert. You can plan how to collect your shipped goods.
