A flange needs enough length to resist the punch force. When the flange is shorter than the V-die opening, it cannot stay straight.<\/p>

For example, bending 1.2 mm steel with an 8 mm die requires a flange of at least 8\u201310 mm. Anything shorter will fold outward or bulge, no matter how skilled the operator is.<\/p>
